Dry-Type Transformers

Electrical Isolation Transformer

Representative configuration. The offered model, dimensions and interfaces are confirmed with the technical proposal.

Overview

Entogo supplies electrical isolation transformers with separate primary and secondary windings. Select voltage ratio, kVA, shielding, grounding and enclosure for the load; isolation duty and dry-type construction are distinct requirements.

Entogo supplies this project equipment through manufacturing partners. Entogo Inc. in Toronto coordinates technical selection, supply scope and order support.

Specification Value
Electrical construction Separate primary and secondary windings; not an autotransformer
Construction reference Dry-type industrial unit; enclosure and ventilation to suit installation
Power and phases kVA and phase arrangement sized for the connected load
Frequency 50 or 60 Hz design selected before manufacture
Voltage ratio Input/output voltages and secondary connection specified explicitly
Shielding Electrostatic shield and termination only when included in the design
Thermal design Load harmonics, starting current, insulation class and temperature rise
Safety basis Applicable IEC 61558 or power-transformer requirements selected by scope

Reference configurations and selection criteria are shown together. The technical offer defines the matched ratings, tests and guaranteed performance for the ordered unit.

Specify the isolation function, not just the voltage ratio

A step-down transformer can have separate windings or an autotransformer connection. These arrangements do not provide the same separation between supply and load. Identify the required winding arrangement explicitly.

An electrostatic shield is a separate design feature. Its presence does not make the equipment a voltage stabilizer or eliminate all harmonics; grounding and performance requirements still need to be defined for the installation.

Applications

  • Industrial machinery
  • Equipment power interfaces
  • Commercial electrical installations

Selection & project requirements

Is an isolation transformer the same as an autotransformer?
No. An isolation transformer uses electrically separate primary and secondary windings. An autotransformer shares a winding connection and therefore does not provide that separation, even when the voltage ratio is identical.
Will it stabilize a fluctuating supply voltage?
A fixed-ratio isolation transformer generally follows input-voltage changes. If controlled output voltage is required, specify regulation separately and compare an automatic voltage stabilizer or another suitable control scheme.
Do nonlinear loads need a different thermal assessment?
Yes. Provide the harmonic spectrum, continuous loading and inrush duty. kVA alone does not describe winding heating under distorted current; insulation, temperature rise and any K-factor requirement need a coordinated assessment.
Does this cover medical or safety-isolating service automatically?
No. General industrial isolation, safety-isolating transformers and medical locations have different requirements. State the intended use and applicable approval basis so the correct design and test scope are selected.

For Canadian and US projects, include the utility specification, service frequency and required approvals. State whether the order is for the transformer alone or an integrated equipment package.
